Visby
For the first time ever Poetry Ride takes over Sweden, and the first stop is the city of Visby on the island of Gotland. Visby is a romantic harbour town, known as the city of ruins and roses, but also a logical stop for the Ride: Visby hosts the Baltic Center for Writers and Translators, and the center organizes an annual international poetry festival (where both Agneta Enckell and Rosa-Marie Huuva have been invited guests). The annual general assembly of the Baltic Writers’ Council is also held in Visby. Poetry work shops and artists’ residences are a common and visible phenomenon in the city, and the Swedish Poetry Slam Championship tour also makes a frequent stop in Visby.
