Helsinki has been the undenied center of the Finnish poetry scene for quite a while now, and even though the Finnish poetry naturally explores other parts of the country as well, Helsinki can be seen as the space in which the Finnish poetry thrives and enters into a dialogue with poetry from other countries – especially conversing with Tallinn on the other side of the gulf. The innovativeness of Helsinki Poetry Connection and its Poetry Jam nights are merely a continuum of the centuries of the poetry vanguard that has inhabited the city. Poetry Ride forms a part of the Poetry month, which in turn is a part of the colourful programme of the Helsinki Festival.
